Allergies are a very common problem seen in ophthalmology and general practice.

In terms of your eyes, allergies cause watery eyes, itchiness and stinging or burning of the eyes. Many different causes for allergies are seen but among the commonest is pollen from just about any tree, grass or plant.

Much less commonly, people can get allergies to make up or other chemicals or animals.

People with sensitive skin and eyes need to wear hypo-allergenic eye products, use antihistamine eye drops or tablets and preferably avoid the irritant.
